This month we are celebrating someone who makes wearing multiple hats look easy (although we know it isn’t!). A passionate advocate for family and community engagement to support STEM opportunities for all students, Jones has been a Fellow in the LEAD STEM network and has deep experience leveraging STEM communities to open doors and provide high-level experiences to students. Jones and her team at the Carnegie Academy for Science Education (CASE) have supported the development of “ABE Student Ambassadors,” providing training and support for local high school students to prepare reagents and lab equipment for ABE. Jones uses social media to advance and support broadened participation in STEM (check out her Twitter feed at @DcMarlena if you want a microcosm of STEM initiatives at your fingertips!), and has been an active contributor and advisor to the ABE Equity, Access, and Engagement working group. We are honored to have Marlena Jones as a leader in our ABE community!
